NORTH AUGUSTA — A fresh bakery, low prices and efficient employees are just some of the things that make North Augusta's newest grocery store stand out. Lidl opened Thursday morning at 7:40 a.m., and Paul Stefaniuk, senior director of Central Services, said there were around 200 people in line waiting. Lidl gave a gift card to the first customer in line, who had been there since before 4 a.m. Other customer's were able to enter for a chance to win a $500 shopping spree and got free reusable grocery bags for กระเป๋าสะพายข้าง ผู้หญิง downloading Lidl's smartphone app. "We're excited to be part of this vibrant community, and the growth in this area," Stefaniuk said. North Augusta Mayor Bob Pettit represented the City at the grand opening. "Growth is occurring throughout our city, and we're happy to have Lidl here to be a big part of that, and we're looking for you as a key partner in that growth," Pettit said. The Lidl in North Augusta is one of six that have opened in South Carolina, along with one that opened Sept. 14 on Alexander Drive in Augusta. "They've committed to 5,000 new jobs in the U.S., and we're happy that you brought some of them here, too. That's super," said Pettit. Today also was the rollout of Heidi Klum's line "Esmara," which offers affordable women's clothing at Lidl. The line includes shoes, scarves, blouses, pants, jackets and coats, all under $50. Lidl offers groceries at low prices. Stefaniuk said they pass savings to customers through efficiency. They stock their shelves with cases, instead of individual units, and customers must bring their own grocery bags or purchase them at the register. Many widely-known brand names aren't available at Lidl. "Eighty-five percent of our product is private label," Stefaniuk said, "So we go out and find the best that's out here, whether it's produced in Italy, or Germany, or here in the U.S., or wherever it is, and we sell those items." Some easily recognizable brands can be found on Lidl's shelves, though, such as Coca-Cola, Goldfish and Nutella. Stefaniuk said Lidl does a lot of work to make every customer's shopping experience great before it even begins. They have open windows, allowing natural light to fill the store, an efficient checkout process, special parking lot design and shopping carts made just for them. "Everything is with the customer experience in mind," he said.
